Flight simulators would not be what are they today if back in the days some games like FlightGear did not introduce the new genres of the game. In this game you will not have to fly different airplanes in order to take down enemies. The game has become much more varied and here you will have to fly commercial planes in order to accomplish different tasks.
The game is a simulator and you will have to work your way around a lot of different controls if you want to take off with your plane and then keep it up in the air in order to reach the objective.
