The utility is open source and other developers can add their own features to the player or build plugins for it. Kantaris allows users to quickly load all sorts of files within the tool. There is the possibility to drag and drop the needed files onto the interface and they will be featured in the playlist. There, files can be sorted based on different factors, such as the duration or the artists who created the file. There is also the option to work with online streams, as well. In a simple text box, users can paste a link towards a network stream, regardless of its audio or video format. Then, in a matter of seconds, the connection will be established. Kantaris is able to work with movie DVDs, as well. There is the possibility to switch between chapters and fully control the content of the DVD within the player. Subtitles can be edited and tweaked in order to look better on the video or get synchronized with the audio track.
